Kate Wilkinson
Kate started stitching at the age of 7 and just never stopped. She loves to share her knowledge and expertise with others, from beginners to more advanced students. Introducing people to the wonderful world of needlework and watching them develop their interest is particularly rewarding. Many of Kate’s students come back year after year and she enjoys encouraging them to extend themselves and explore new directions.
Kate has been teaching Embroidery classes for over 30 years and is competent in many techniques. Subjects covered include: Hardanger, Blackwork, Drawn and Pulled Thread, Samplers, Crewel Embroidery, Surface Stitchery, Canvaswork, Ribbon Embroidery and Stumpwork.
Generally there is something for everyone in the classes and if there isn’t, we will find it.
Joan Hamilton
Joan grew up in Zimbabwe and developed a love of stitching that reflects her heritage. She likes to work with bright colours and free style stitching is her forte. She designs her own projects using colourful wool fabrics and striking arrays of threads. Joan is an expert at dyeing fabric and thread and produces many wonderful pieces for the shop and for her classes. She is a very patient teacher and good with beginners and has been recognised for her work and wonderful results with intellectually challenged pupils.
We are lucky having her to teach here and she offers classes in the evenings and Saturdays for those who work during the week. Her projects are good for beginners and intermediate students and she can definitely stir up creative instincts.
